Our Rating :

Almost every gaming company and developer has tried their hands at Kart racing games. Some have come out on top while some have just fizzled away. Sega tried its hand at the genre and at times came out with flying colours which would bring us to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, a game published by Sega and developed by Sumo digital. The game is the sequel to Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and the fourth instalment in the Sega Superstar series along with being the eight racing game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game includes all new elements that make this version stand out from the rest and become one of the best in the entire series.

New visuals, new gameplay and new options make this a new experience:

The gamepad has been integrated into the gameplay perfectly making it a far superior experience than anyone would have expected. The game is gorgeous looking and has striking features that is sure to captures the player’s eye. Tracks this time are more challenging and more of a variety which makes it fun to go out and explore each and every one of them. Career mode is long and definitely worth the effort.

Stunning visuals, lovely crafted tracks along with excellent character models:

The visual elements included in the game are absolutely stunning. Lighting effects are placed well so as to highlight each and every curve whether that is in the environments, characters or karts. Character models are also created really well and make them feel alive and fleshy. Environments are well drawn out and look fantastic even on a big screen. The amount of detail integrated into the game is impressive.

Sound effects are cool and soundtrack fits appropriately:

The soundtrack is very nice and actually puts the adrenaline back into the racing genre. Characters jump with glee and kart engines roar with raw power to give the player the best audio experience possible. Character voices are pretty cool and give them a feeling of being real. Each audio element is placed with accuracy to give the player an actual feeling of being on a challenging race track.

Career mode is awesome and challenging, lots of variety in track types and cool weapons:

The gameplay indeed is very different from its predecessors as it puts back speed and challenge in every race course there is available to the player. There are a host of tracks to race on, over or under. A larger variety of track types make the experience of racing truly exciting and visually appealing. There is a lot of adventure to be had as the player tries to compete with fellow contestants to rule the sky, land and air courses. Apart from this there are many shortcuts and alternate routes filled throughout the levels. The visuals are at times a bit too detailed and tend to slow the gameplay down. The career mode is very smartly structured as it takes the player down a challenging and rewarding road to triumph. The weapons are plain crazy and provide a lot of fun to the player.

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed is a great balance between visuals, technique, marvellous gameplay and sound effects. It does a great job of providing the player with a truly immersive setting to burn rubber.
